Taking Flight Youth Theatre
Cardiff, 2021
A 10-week programme has been designed with Taking Flight Youth Theatre to integrate visual art activities with the young people into their theatre classes. This is aimed in finding new ways in exploring their creativity, improve their skills and confidence, and to build relationships with their peers. Each participant receives an art material box every week to ensure they have materials necessary for art sessions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The two sessions facilitated per week are accessed both live on Zoom and pre-recorded on Youtube.
We are currently working on a play called "The Quarantined Mermaid and The Plastic Vampire". The story is inspired by the classic fairytale, 'The Little Mermaid' but also touching upon specific topics that participants felt were important to promote such as, the emotional effects of being in lockdown, plastic pollution, and deaf/ BSL awareness. Current visual art activities are designed to compliment the rehearsals and the progression of the play such as, character development, story-building by creating dioramas and more.
Audio Description and further information of the project will be available soon...
